Never having knit a hat before, I experienced a flurry of hat knitting for Christmas. First, I made Snöflingas for my mum and sister-in-law to go with their Wandering Cowls. This design by Jenny Gordy is super easy and super fast to knit. I used Rowan Lima, in Lima and Aztec, a perfect substitute for the Brooklyn Tweed Shelter.
My youngest sister knew exactly what she wanted, and got it: a bright yellow, broad ribbed beanie with a big pompom and a brim. I used this free pattern by Woolly Wormhead and some leftover Cascade 220. Easy.
The one I had the most fun knitting: a Snawheid for myself. It ended up big, even for my big head. Next time I will go down a needle size. But it will definitely keep my ears warm. All it needs now is a LARGE pompom to make it look just like Kate Davies’. And some colder weather…
